Cry Me a River دومین ترانه از اولین آلبوم Justin Timberlake می باشد که با تهیه کنندگی و خوانندگی میهمان Timbaland همراه است. این ترانه جایزه Grammy را در سال 2004 برای بهترین اجرای پاپ مرد از آن خود کرد.
ترانه باز در مورد جدایی جاستین با Britney Spears دوست دخترش حرف می زنه و اون رو با لیریک های زیر به خیانت متهم می کنه:
“You don’t have to say what you did/I already know, I found out from him/Now there’s just no chance, for you and me, there’ll never be/And don’t it make you sad about it.”
(نباید بگی چیکار کردی / من که می دونم، از اون یارو فهمیدم/ حالا که دیگه شانسی نیست، برای تو و من، هرگز نخواهد بود/ و این ناراحتت نمی کنه)
ویدیوی این ترانه نیز انتقام جاستین رو از بریتنی به تصویر می کشه که در اون با یه زن دیگه هستش و بریتنی هم این ویدیو رو می بینه
موفقفیت این ویدیو باعث نزاع بین تهیه کنندگان Timbaland and Scott Storch، که به بدون مجوز بودن ویدیو ادعا می کردن، شد. هر کدام ترانه ای بر ضد دیگری منتشر کردن.
شایعه هایی از خیانت Britney Spears و دلایلی که گفته نشد، بود و با ویدیو و ترانه، این شایعه ها رو تصدیق کرد.
US Weekly پس از انتشار این ویدیو، مطلبی با عنوان “Britney Vs. Justin: The War Is On” نوشت و به اختلاف و جدایی بین آنها پرداخت.
Timberlake نیز در مورد ویدیو گفته که در مورد بریتنی نیست و در مورد من هست.
طبق شایعات ، در سال 2003 نیز بریتنی با ترانه Everytime از آلبوم In the Zone جوابش را داد و با توجه به لیریک ترانه که در اون شکلی عذرخواهانه داره، گرچه خود بریتنی این ادعا رو رد کرده.
ریمیکسی از این ترانه با نام “Cry me a superman” از امینم نیز وجود داره.
